China National Day, officially the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, is annually celebrated on October 1st to commemorate the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Usually Chinese people enjoy a 7-day public holiday, which is known as Golden Week. This year however, the Golden Week will run from October 1 to October 8, an extended eight-day period that combines the National Day on October 1 with the Mid-Autumn Festival on October 6. To facilitate this extended break, the public holidays on September 28 (Sunday) and October 11 (Saturday) are designated as working days.
During Golden Week 2024 in China, a record-breaking 826 millon trips were recorded, with a significant economic boost of over 754 billion yuan in tourism spending. This surpasses pre-pandemic figures and marks a major post-pandemic revival of tourism for both domestic and international travel, making it one of the busiest holiday periods in China.

Our subsidiary PETREX (SHANGHAI) CO., LTD. has recently moved from No. 600 Hengfeng Road to No. 568 Hengfeng Road in Jingan District, Shanghai, China. The new office is bigger and the office building itself has much better facitilities and management.
Petrex has started its activities in China already in the year 2000. Our idea was to benefit from local knowhow to achieve a better sourcing for pharmaceutical and chemical materials. In 2012 we have changed the legal form from a representative office to a limited company to create independent business in China with own sales in the domestic and international markets.
Most members in our team Shanghai are with our company for more than 10 years. We are convinced that their experience will not only guarantee continuous good sourcing support for our GmbH but also help to develop more business in Petrex Shanghai.

During the last couple of weeks Petrex and its suppliers worked hard to pave the road to best quality and sustainability! Facing new environmental challenges and regulations, Petrex has reviewed and updated its standards to reflect current best practices. Doing so, we worked on a new questionnaire that our suppliers completed. That led to more transparency and gave us the chance to make recommendations for actions to support improvement.

The yearly Young Masters soccer tournament will take place on 5 July this year, organized by the football club FC St. Hubert. As the region’s largest event for children’s football, we are happy to support the event and the concept “1:0 for children”.
History
For several years, more than 1,800 primary school students and more than 2,000 visitors have participated in the multiple-day football tournament annually. Sorted by the age groups, the pupils can experience team sports playfully. At the same time, donations are collected for UNICEF.
PETREX JUNIOR CUP
About 30 teams compete against each other in different rounds. Visitors are welcome from 8.45 AM – 4 PM. Petrex is a sponsor for this event and will award the trophy. More information can be found here (German).

27 May was the international diversity day 2025. People are equal and people are divers and that is what makes people unique and valuable. Petrex encourages diversity!
Just in time for the diversity day 2025 we proudly announce that we do have a cooperation with the local school – Thomaeum!

Petrex uses all kinds of transportation modes to move goods from the production plant to the client. This could be by plane, vessel, train or truck. The most sustainable options are vessel or train. Some of our goods are shipped from China to Rotterdam. After arrival at port, containers are loaded onto inland vessels which use the Rhine river to move the goods across the border to our German clients.
Due to extreme lack of rain in March and April, the Rhine water level has been at a very low level for several weeks. These shallow waters resulted in 50-60% reduced loading capacity and also limited shipping space as well as transport surcharges.
Some rain in the past two weeks has improved the situation slightly. The water level recovered a bit and vessels were able to carry up to 80% capacity again recently. More rain is forecasted, so we expect that the inland shipping will recover by early May.
